I know I said awhile ago that I would hopefully have some better photos of Wonderland to show you soon. Last night I discovered that a friend of mine from the cast had someone in the audience taking photos during one of the performances, and they turned out amazingly! There are nearly 40 of them, so needless to say I’m no longer disappointed with the photos I have of the show!
For some reason the gallery has decided to display the photos in reverse order, with the backstage photos at the beginning and the photos of the beginning of the show at the end! That wasn’t what I intended, but until I can figure out a way to fix it, that’s how it’ll have to be.
As for yesterday’s post, it seems, judging by some of the comments that were left, that a few readers are surprised I’m complaining, or think I’m being a prima donna.
They have had similar experiences without giving them a second thought. Is my theatre company really THAT different to other ones elsewhere?
If you are involved in theatre, is emailing audition results a fairly common practice where you are, or are you as surprised as I am?

The costumes and set look really good!
Yeah, I was surprised at how well they turned out in those photos! They were actually pretty basic (especially the set), but the lighting was amazing, which made a huge difference.
These pictures are just amazing. Seriously, I think that it was so lovely to show us all of them! Thanks!
Wonderland? Sounds really wonderful. ^^
Cool pics! You have so much!!!
PS. Love the slideshow effect!
(shall read your prev posts laaater), but those photos look like fun! What theatre company are you with?
I know, I was really happy with how well they turned out! The costumes and sets were really simple (they had to be, with so many kids in the cast!), but they still looked awesome.
The company I did it with is one down here in Christchurch, which has just started up with the objective of doing children’s theatre productions in order to raise money for children’s charities. This was our first year running, and our charity this year was Child Cancer. :)
Awesome pictures, everyone looks so nice all done up and in costume! I admire all of you guys who do theater because I’d never be able to dedicate all the time and effort. Dancing burned me out, lol.
The pictures came out great. :) The costumes look really good too.
Makes me wanna go see some plays.
Thanks! I was really impressed with how well they turned out too, since the person who took them was sitting in the audience!
Once Fumiko gets a bit older, you should take your kids to some plays, I’m sure they’d love them, and who knows, they might get bitten by the theatre bug themselves! Lol! Most of this cast was under 13 years old. :)
Thanks for the comment on my site! It looks like the play was fun. I wanted to be in theater, but I get stage fright! :hissyfit:
I used to get that too, when I first started acting, but it’s honestly something that gets easier the more you do it.
I find that if you go onstage SURE of what you’re doing and well-prepared, there’s no need to be nervous since you’re so familiar with the show that there are only minimal opportunities for things to go wrong!
Your pictures are awesome!! Looks like you had a fantastic time!
I have never auditioned for anything, or have any friends who do theatrics, but I’m sure you were not complaining or putting too much thought into it. You were simply having a reaction. BTW… what kind of plugin did you use for your threaded comments?
I love all the photos, and, as I expected, you make an awesome egg!
I think your threaded comments thing is lovely, it was such a nice suprise to get “Holly has responded to your comment” mail in my inbox. It also must be handy for responding directly to comments.
Having only been in plays at school, a phone call/email would be a luxury as we just have to keep checking the drama notice board for the cast list (somewhat obsessively!). I’m not sure that an email is too bad a method, but it would be nice if it was from the head honcho and I can see why you’d be surprised. If they’re going to inform people the “quick” way, it would have been nice if they’d done it quickly! But, as they say, there are many more parts in the sea…or even the theatre!
Lol, several people have said that, I don’t know whether I should be flattered or horrified! LMAO! :chicken: <- kind of related to an egg, I suppose!?
I know! I really like it too, it’s so useful! Sometimes people do ask me question sin comments (like which plugin is this, lol!) so I find it easier to respond to it here and send them an email telling them that I have, rather than go to their blog and leave a message which is them completely out of context! :moody:
Yeah, I remember our school production’s casts being announced in that way too, and it worked well there and was fine, but the thing is, when you’re in a theatre company which isn’t part of a bigger organisation like a school, it’s difficult to expect them to all come to one specific place to view a list, lol! I was just surprised because for as long as I’ve been there (since I was 14), they’d always made phone calls, so when I got an email I was like of like :lost:, and wondered what the heck was going on!
As for other parts, yup, you’re exacting right. I’m really luck to live in Christchurch actually, because there are so many theatre companies, and therefore, so many auditions!
EDIT: Btw, I edited this comment for serious grammar FAIL. :fryingpan:
I love the pictures! I’d love to play Alice, someday… :)
Phone calls are preferred…it feels more respectful and professional. But out of the 7 shows I’ve done, only 2 have called me. Email is second best…that’s happened once for me. What I don’t like is when you have to check the theater’s website to find out!
I have no idea what the normal thing is in professional theater, since I’ve never done a pro show, only community stuff.
I know, I think it would be an awesome part! The girl who was our Alice is actually 14, although she looks way younger, lol!
You’re a theatre person too?! Awesome. :giddy: What shows have you been in?
I’ve been in (starting with the most recently done)…
The Queen’s Friend (Lady Jane Grey)
The Velveteen Rabbit (Velveteen Rabbit)
Beauty and the Beast (Villager/Flatware)
The Jungle Book (Rikki Tikki Tavi)
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Moth)
David Copperfield (Little Emily)
Oliver! (Workhouse Orphan)
Whaddabout you?
(Oh..and I also blog at http://www.actressbackstage.blogspot.com, so you probably know me from that more than my other blog, I think)
They sound like awesome parts! I’ve never been in, or seen any of those shows though, but one of my theatre companies is doing BatB in July, so I’ll probably go to that when it’s on.
I’ve done tons of shows too…*looks at posters on wall to remember which*…
Wonderland! (Troubadour/Humpty Dumpty)
Aladdin (Servant/Ensemble)
Peter Pan (Indian)
The Ugly Duckling (Chicken)
Peter & the Wolf (Wolf)
12 Dancing Princesses (Princess #2)
Little Red Riding Hood (Hunter)
Sleeping Beauty (Ensemble)
Cinderella (Ensemble)
Goldilocks & the Three Bears (Mama Bear)
The Three Little Pigs (Little Red Riding Hood)
Puss in Boots (The White Rabbit)
A Christmas Carol (Belinda Cratchit)
I think that’s it, lol! I’ve done so many I can’t remember which order they go in! :fryingpan: As you might have noticed, I love doing children’s and interactive theatre!
Oh yeah, I remember your other blog, I’ve figured out who you are now, haha! :)
Wow, cool! Yeah, children’s theatre rocks. :)
oh and btw I was looking at your old theatre posts and you had one about Little Women. I saw a straight-play version of that several years ago, and it was really amazing. It ended with Jo getting together with Professor Bhaer. Jo’s part was definitely the lead…one of my dream roles actually. :)
Wow that’s observant, lol! I think Meg is one of mine, just because she’s the oldest and I’m almost 21, so she’s probably the only one I could still convincingly BE! Also because when I read the book, she was the only sister I actually liked, and who didn’t annoy me in some way or another!
