So I found out this afternoon that I “was not successful in [my] audition.”. Yup. Ok. The rejection is fine, I basically expected it as soon as I left the theatre after the audition, but what pissed me off (ok, and slightly amused me too, admittedly) was the way in which I was informed.
In this particular theatre company is has ALWAYS been the case that the director makes a phone call telling you to outcome of your audition within a day or two. This time this was not the case. I recieved an email. This email was not even from the director. It was from someone else who is part of the company!?
Not only was this email extremely late, but it also contained an extremely rambling, long-winded excuse for why they did not inform me sooner, and were doing it via email as opposed to phone. I’m not going to go into any great depth around what it said, but I’ll go so far as to say that it was obviously untrue. WTF is wrong with some people!? It honestly would have been absolutely fine to just thank me, tell me and hit SEND, why they felt the need to type out a whole paragraph worth of excuses, I have no clue! It shall forever remain a mystery, I suppose! LMAO!
I also intend to reply to the email asking this person to please give me some idea of why I was not cast and what I ought to have done differently/better? I think they might fall over when they get this reply, since I’ve never done it before, but still, they did sit in on the audition, and have directed me before, so surely they’d have an idea, and I feel like I’m perfectly within my rights to ask.
I guess now I know for sure that I’m not in this I’m free to look for something else to do! Yay! I know there are usually a lot of shows onstage in the July holidays, which will no doubt be holding auditions soon, so I’m keeping my eyes open for one of those, and possibly beginning ballet lessons (!?), but that’s a blog for another day! :)
What’s the weirdest excuse (obviously untrue) you’ve ever been given for something?
adopted. arts student. blogger. cheerful. coffee drinker. creative. daughter. diet coke lover. drama nerd. friend. girly girl. holly. kiwi. lazy. loves kids. mac user. night owl. only child. overthinker. person who stole this idea from jenny. practical joker. purple person. scrapbooker. september baby. starbucks fan. twentyone. wants to teach drama.

I’d love to answer your question but I can’t remember the weirdest excuse that I’ve ever heard. I always forget those things since they’re not that wonderful to remember
I’m sorry to hear about what happened. You’re right, they should have at least called since it’s more civil and professional.
ohh… I’m so sorry you didn’t get accepted. There’ll be other times tho. Thx for the suggestion. I already discussed it with Guy, and I decided to go to anamarlia.com. thank you tho!
You’re welcome! Glad you found someone to host you. :)
I honestly cannot think of the weirdest excuse that I’ve been given for anything to be honest!
Sorry, you didn’t get in though.
I never get in whenever I audition, ahh wells!
xo
I’m sorry you were rejected, and in such a way too. It was so irresponsible of the company. Good luck in finding another show to perform in though :)
The weirdest excuse I’ve been given is: I have to go to Mars. Which made PERFECT sense, of course
I’m sorry that that happened. They should have let you know earlier though! Late replies always piss me off to no end. :fryingpan: I hope they reply to your e-mail, and of course you had the right to do so. By knowing what you can improve will help you for next time!
Wow an email? How very unprofessional. And to think I’m satisfy with just viewing the casting list. I’m sorry things didn’t work out for you. Life of the theatre, I’m afraid.
The only excuse I can come up with off the top of my head was when I confronted my GM about why I didn’t get treated like a temporary keyholder. Her response? “She wasn’t suppose to have delivered it to you like that.” Eff that. :fryingpan:
I’m not saying it’s so much “unprofessional” as just extremely bizarre and different to what would normally happen in this particular situation.
I also think the made up excuses for not calling were a bit…stupid, to be honest, it’s not like I’d have been horribly offended if she’d just apologised for being late/via email and left it at that. Lol!
Oh well, different people do things in different ways, I suppose!
Lol the :fryingpan: emoticon seems to be getting an awful lot of use in the comments on this entry!
I’m sorry to hear that you were treated in this manner. That’s definitely retarded, unprofessional, and really a waste of your time and frustration. I hope you will reply and ask that, and see what they say! But I guess some people think Email is one way to resolve things nowadays.
I did! Well, I didn’t send the question email to the same woman who emailed me, but to another man who was also present at the audition (yes, there were three people, the director, and two “assistants”) and who I think might be the most likely to give me honest, reasonable, helpful criticism.
I haven’t heard anything back yet, but hopefully I will soon :)
I’m really sorry to hear you didn’t get cast. I think an email like that is horribly unprofessional, ugh.
There’s not much of weird excuses that people tell me but there are a LOT of STUPID excuses! Like “Why are you late” and they’d be like “Because my dad wont let me go out early” and Im like “oooohhhhhh” :fryingpan:
