Scrapbooking…?

Thanks sweet621 @ THMB!Recently I seem to have started reliving my “scrapbooking phase”. It started in August 2006 when I started working on an album as a Christmas present for a friend. After I finished that it kind of went away again, coz uni started and I had other stuff to do, but now, with one of my oldest friends turning 21 in a few weeks, I’m feeling like it might have to start back up again! I’ve know this person for most of my life, and this equates to a rather large number of photos!

Once I finish this one, maybe I’ll FINALLY get started on scrapbooking all the stuff from high school I’ve had stored in the back of my wardrobe since I left…AT THE END OF 2005! :O

What do you do with photos?

Most people have probably noticed that I’m one of those people who has extremely curly hair. It might not seem like much of an issue, but it is a huge issue, especially when you don’t know what to do with it!

I vividly remember being a little kid and absolutely HATING the way I looked (being brighter than the other kids, overweight and needing glasses didn’t help, either!) and wishing my hair was straight, just because it would have been easier to handle and not looked SO DAMN FRIZZY! To be honest I was probably 17 or 18 before I really started growing my hair out (almost to my waist by that point) and actually deciding that I rather liked it! Even though other people have always complimented me on it, and sometimes even asked me whether it was a wig, they never really sunk in as being genuine. LOL!

Now, at almost 21, I wouldn’t swap it for straight hair, even if I could, but I’m still somewhat at a loss about how to, like, style it! A couple of days ago I discovered a website (and forum) called Naturally Curly. They have some interesting advice on there, the main piece being that people with curly hair should avoid using most types of shampoos, since they have chemicals in them to make your hair dry and frizzy. Instead of washing it with shampoo, you should ONLY use conditioner. You also should only ever use a comb on your hair, as opposed to a hairbrush. After a few weeks of this treatment, your hair’s condition is supposed to improve.

Sounds rather bizarre to me, but I figured that since it’s not likely to do any harm (if it becomes unbearably oily or tangled I can just wash it!), and doesn’t involve having to buy anything new, it’s worth a try. Today is the second day I haven’t used a hairbrush or shampoo, and I’m not bald yet, so it seems to be ok so far!

Do you have curly hair? How do you manage it? Has anyone else ever heard of/tried this method, how did it turn out?

Film Opening

Last night was the premiere of the documentary/film I was in at the end of last year. If you were following my blog at the time you’ll probably remember my writing about it!

It was funny when I got the invitation in the mail, since it seemed like it all happened such a long time ago that I’d almost forgotten I was in it, even though I was told at the time that the opening would be in May 2008!

It was awesome though, a group of us went; me, my parents, my aunt and uncle and Jenny and Brooke. They all enjoyed it too I think, especially mum, who although she didn’t really know what to expect going in, said that it was an interesting “snapshot” of a side of life that we don’t normally get to see, considering none of us are part of the “rainbow community”.

I guess in some ways it was an odd thing for me to be involved in. It started because I got an email from the drama administrator at uni, telling me that this production company needed people to play school girls in a scene related to the Parker and Hulme murder case. At this time I was in the middle of a Daughters of Heaven based assessment, so I thought this sounded interesting.

Behind the scenes = CHAOSAt first I was only supposed to be in that part, but then I ended up doing more and more, slotting in wherever they needed young women of my description! Of course this is really different to how most other people got involved. I’d say the vast majority of the cast and crew are in fact gay or lesbian, and got involved because it represented something personal to them.

The film turned out to be quite different to what I expected it to be. Considering the amount of time we spend filming the “dramatisations” of relevant historical events (like the aftermath of a school directly after the Parker Hulme case), very little of that footage actually appeared in the film, which was really more of a documentary than an entertaining movie, and probably best suited for TV. It was still good though, I think my friends thought it was absolutely hilarious to see a close up of my face looking literally like this -> , in one scene! LMAO! Yes. I WIN at acting. Clearly.

We were also amused by the “gag reel” after the credits, which involved shots of all the things that went wrong during filming, like the camera falling off the tripod, people dancing, breaking into song unexpectedly and getting hit by stray waves while filming a scene on the beach!?

FilmingLuckily no blooper footage featured me! Not that I did anything stupid, I think the worst thing that happened to me was turning to run out of a room (after being thrown out by the mother of a girl I was *apparently* having a relationship with), and banging into the kitchen counter! Ow.

PHOTO 1: The directors were trying to recreate an actual school photo featuring Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme
PHOTO 2: Behind the scenes before shooting a 1960s Tupperware party scene. I always joked that I felt like a flight attendant in this costume (I’m near the back in the dress with the teal collar).
PHOTO 3: Some of the crew setting up for a scene at the school.

We need more people like this man!

Thanks chocotea @ CTMB!

Cheers as tagger tagged

I know not everyone will agree with the bar manager’s attitude, but I certainly do! Tagging is a HUGE problem here in NZ. There are just so many morons who do it solely because they can, and regardless of what the police try to do, there are always idiots who insist upon defacing things that do not belong to them!

This is why I think this guy did the right thing. The tagger completely deserved what he got, and as he admits himself, he will never do it again! As for the 100 cheering patrons, I bet that won’t do it either, even if they did get what was probably the best laugh they’d ever had! Pity nobody videoed it for Youtube!

I just think it’s so sad that people who are slightly older than me, still act like 5 year olds and scribble over anything they can get their hands on! If I ever met this guy, I don’t know what I’d do first - shake his hand or apologise for the stupidity of my generation!

Film opening tonight! I’m not really sure what to expect, but it should be good! Expect a rather long post tomorrow (or really late tonight) with some photos etc. :)

Thanks Elizabeth @ CTMB!This morning Brooke and I were at uni and I was reading through the latest comments on my blog. One eventually came through from Stephen, commenting on the last entry. I had just finished reading this one when he sent another one through, telling me that he had clicked a link to my old URL, which was still on the footer thanks to my never getting around to fixing it.

When he did this, he promptly discovered the following warning message, followed by a “click to enter” button…

This website may contain information, links, images and videos of sexually explicit material.

Of course Brooke thought this was absolutely hysterical and although I didn’t originally want to go and see for myself (I was using the university’s internet connection!) our curiosity got the better of us and upon investigating (as far as the warning page) we discovered that awkwardmuffin.com appears to have been resold and converted into a porn site! :O

Right. Ok. So now the question arises, who on earth would want to register “awkwardmuffin.com” for porn!? Muffins are nothing to do with porn!? WTF!? o.O

EDIT: Ok. So it turns out that muffins aren’t as unrelated to porn as I originally thought. Interesting. I will never seen them in the same way again! o.O
